Planning your next ski holiday and considering Bulgaria but want some more information, you’ve come to the right place!
Why we choose Bulgaria?
So let’s get straight to it, why did we choose Bulgaria to ski? Well we were looking for good value for money, able to stay somewhere with a bit of luxury and easy to get to from the UK.
With a relatively short transfer, a selection of good 4 star hotels and excellent value for money. Bulgaria ticked all the boxes.
Which Resort?
There are three main ski areas in Bulgaria, all are excellent for begineers. The resorts are Bansko, Borovets and Pamporvo.
Pamporvo is great for beginners, and Bansko and Borovets suit more abilities. We visited Borovets for its beginner slopes but also for more choice of slopes as we progressed through the week.
Where to stay?
We stayed at the Rila Hotel in Borovets. The rooms were lovely with views of the slopes and town. We were half board and the breakfasts and evening meals were fantastic, a 4 course evening meal was buffet style and there was so much choice for breakfast as well. The ski hire is in the same building where you also store your skis so it’s very easy to get to the slopes. Its a ski in ski out hotel, with a lift just outside the front of the hotel. There is also a granola which is a short walk from the hotel. There is a swimming pool and spa in the hotel which was really great after a day on the slopes.
When to ski?
The ski season in Bulgaria is December – March, we visited in early February 2022. We had plenty of snow and it wasn’t that cold or that busy. I’d advise to visit out of school holidays if you can.
Ski Levels
The resorts in Bulgaria are all suited for beginners. There are some more challenging runs if you have more experienced members of your group.
Tips
I thought I’d finish off this post with a few tips:
The ski school in Bulgaria is great for beginners or to improve your technique.
When you stop switch your skis with someone else in your party then no one is lightly to pick yours up by mistake.
You will need local cash, most restaurants won’t take cards.
If you have any questions, drop them in the comments.
Until next time, happy travelling.
