The most EPIC road trip across the USA

Updated: Sep 17, 2024

Planning the ULTIMATE road trip across the USA, you’ve come to the right place!

This trip was the Northern Trail with Trek America but unfortunately, that company no longer exists and I couldn’t find a company offering a similar trip. However, if you are looking at planning your own Northern USA coast to coast you’ve come to the right place.

If you want to quick watch of the route check out my YouTube video. If you are looking for more details – see the rest of this post below.

New York

Starting off in the big apple, we had some brief time to explore before we headed north first to some waterfalls before setting up at our first campsite.

Niagara Falls

The next day we headed onto Niagara Falls which was truly spectacular and well worth getting the boat trip. It’s definitely worth a stop if you are in this area.

Cedar Point

Theme parks we the theme of the next day, we camped right by Cedar Park so we had a full afternoon exploring and going on rides.

Chicago

Next we headed onto the first city were we staying for two days in a hostel. We visited Micheal Jackson’s family house on our way into the city. The explored the city including the bean and got some deep dish pizza. In the evening we went on a cycle tour of the city and coastline. The next day we did some more exploring including climbing the tower.

Wyoming

Leaving Chicago we had a brief lunchtime stop in Wyoming before heading onto the next campsite.

Minnesota

The next day we were getting right into the mid west. We visited the corn palace and the green giant. Before going to this old town were we could dress up as cowboys/gals. We then headed onto Badlands for a short hike before camping here.

Badlands and Mount Rushmore

Our next day was an early start to capture sunrise in the Badlands before we headed onto Mount Rushmore to explore here.

Cody

The next stop was in Cody to see the Rodeo in the evening. Before we headed onto Yellowstone.

Yellowstone

In Yellowstone the first day was exploring Yellowstone geyser Old Faithful and hot springs. The next day we did Mt Washburn hike for sure this was the start of my love for hiking in the Rockies.

Grand Teton

We were really into our National Parks now, number 3 was Grand Teton and it didn’t disappoint! We did a beautiful hike here along by the lake.

Jackson Hole

Jackson Hole was for the outdoor activities we did white water rafting and horse back riding both of which I would recommend.

Yosemite

Next up was Yosemite and my favourite hike of the trip, this was an amazing national park to visit.

San Francisco

We were then into our next city stop, a break from camping and in a hostel. There is so much to do in San Francisco, I’d highly recommend getting the catamaran evening cruise under the bridge, in the harbour and walking or cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge. There is also Alcatraz, trams to ride on, the zig zag road to name a few.

California Coast

Getting into the final stretch we drove down the Pacific Highway, stopping at popular beaches, towns and to see seals.

Los Angeles

Our trip ended Los Angeles but before we headed home, we visited the walk of fame, Hollywood sign, Beverley Hills, Venice Beach and Santa Monica beach and pier.

Until next time, happy travelling.
